One of the best things about living in River North is that there’s no shortage of things to do. The neighborhood is filled with and surrounded by the best restaurants, nightlife, attractions, and shopping. If you’re looking for something special to do, there are fun and exciting events year-round. Here are some of the top events in River North and downtown Chicago.
In the fall the Merchandise Mart hosts Luxe Home. Dedicated to home interiors and design, this event offers inspiration to decorate your own home with your individual style. The landmark building also hosts the One of a Kind Show and Sale. Featuring unique, or “one of a kind,” items, this show takes place in the spring and again right before the holidays so you can find that perfect gift.
Also during the holidays is the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. Taking place just a few blocks East on Michigan Avenue, the event is a day filled with holiday-themed festivities, culminating in a nationally broadcast parade and a gorgeous fireworks display.
One of the biggest events in River North is the Taste of River North. Hosted by the River North Residents Association, this annual festival features booths from some of the neighborhood’s best restaurants. Considering River North is home to some of the tastiest spots in the city, this fest is definitely a must for any foodie.
In the summer the Chicago Park District hosts movies in the park all over the city, including at the A. Montgomery Ward Park in River North. The park is a gorgeous space of green located right on the Chicago River. It’s a perfect spot for a romantic movie night or for a family-friendly outing.
Another benefit to River North’s plentiful selection of restaurants and bars is that several of them host events. Moe’s Cantina and Old Crow Smokehouse host several “fests” throughout the year dedicated to everything from wine to tacos. Billy Dec’s Rockit Bar and Grill also hosts frequent events and celebrities are often sighted at the Hubbard Street hot spot.
These are just a few of the many events in River North. To see what else is happening in your neighborhood, follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
