The Best Happy Hours In River North

Some of the best hours are Happy Hours – work is finally  over, you’re chilling with friends, and the food and drinks are heavily discounted. Heck, those are the things Happy Hours are made of! But where can you find the best Happy Hours in River North? There’s quite a few and trust us, we wound up VERY happy writing this blog – so now it’s time to share them with you.

We began our quest at Arbella and wow, it set the bar pretty high! Happy Hour here is weekdays from 5-7pm with a drink special from each section of their global menu. Cocktails included are the Chilcano (a cucumber infused Pisco with lime and ginger beer), the Fool’s Gold (Mezcal, pineapple, honey and amaro), the brilliantly-titled Punch In The Dickens (Stolen Rum, oolong arakku, demerara and lime) and the House Old Fashioned which is… left to the bartender’s whim! They also have house wine for $8 and beer at $5 as well as a secret daily feature which you have to ask the bartender for. They also have a different food special for Sunday through Thursday. The day we went we enjoyed the Cha Gio Shrimp & Pork Eggrolls for just $6. There’s a very chill atmosphere to go with it all too.

Next up we sampled Gilt Bar – a very upscale nightspot for dinner and drinkipoos. The dimly-lit ambience (lots of candles!) gives it a cozy and cool vibe. The food here is great; we sampled the meatballs (wowzers!), the Tenderloin Steak Tartare and brussel sprouts and enjoyed everything.  But we’re here for Happy Hour so what about that? Well, it’s offered up every day of the week from 5-11:30pm and includes daily drink specials, $3 PBR and $4 table wine. Not bad!

Has anyone tried the Hampton Social – bringing East Coast to River North? It’s a nautical-themed place that focuses on rose wine. Imagine you’re hanging out with Martha Stewart because that’s the vibe. Their happy hour runs from Monday through Friday from 3-6pm and includes 50% off their pizza and the rose of the day. It’s a little pricey but you’ll enjoy it. The menu has plenty of choices – we sampled the seafood bisque, crab cake benedict and roasted crispy potato wedges. Yum to all! You won’t be disappointed.

Wherever you choose to go, please drink responsibly – and have fun!
