June is upon us and filled with great events. We’ve rounded some up and made them the subject of our latest blog, Things To Do in South Loop in June! Here we go…
We kick off with Maifest Chicago from June 1-4. Mayfest (Maifest in German) is the German celebration of the commencement of Spring. The tradition stems from centuries ago and is still celebrated there with a maypole (or “maibaum”) that’s festooned in icons that resemble historical moments. This Maifest here in South Loop will focus on German foods and will have the maypole on hand to dance around. There’s also live music!
Next up on our list of things to do in South Loop in June is The Chicago Blues Festival which arrives at Millennium Park from June 9th-11th and runs each of those days from 11am-9:30pm. It’s completely and utterly free and not for nothing it’s the biggest Chicago music festival of them all! Over 5,000 people will be attending and this year you can expect Gary Clark Jnr, Rhiannon Giddens, Ronnie Baker Brooks, William Bell, Nellie Tiger Travis and many more.
Also making our blog of things to do in South Loop in June is the monthly Randolph Street Market event which is held the last weekend of the month from Feb-Dec. This street market has it all with over 200 vendors on hand, all of whom go through a rigorous vetting process. There you’ll find all kinds of antiques, handmade items and vintage stuff. Vendors are indoors (inside Plumbers Hall) AND outdoors (in tented booths). You’ll have a blast here and if you’re really into antiquing this is for you!
Next on our list of things to do in South Loop in June happens on June 24th. When that day comes, head over to Navy Pier for the 2nd Annual Pier Pride. Outside of the Lakeview neighborhood, this is the largest Pride celebration so get out there and get your rainbow on! It’s a full day of live music, performances, special events and, of course, a parade down the lakefront. You’ll love it!
Rounding out our list of things to do in South Loop in June is the Chicago Taco & Tequila Festival held in Jackson Park on June 24-25. A $15 admission fee gets you one cocktail but there’s so much more on hand. You can find all sorts of tortillas – from traditional to exotic – as well as the tequila cocktails that go best with them.
There’s many things to do in South Loop in June – but wherever you choose to go have fun and drink responsibly.
